How the relationship between Bursar and your firm is meant to work.
This page describes how Bursar handles data today. It is not the executed agreement between Bursar and your firm - that document is issued with the engagement and is the one that binds either of us. If you are running a diligence review and need the current executed version, ask and it will be sent.
What Bursar is
Bursar is a production engine for accounting firms. It codes transactions, chases source documents, reconciles accounts, routes the file through a credentialed reviewer, and delivers a close package on your firm’s letterhead. Your firm is the customer. Bursar does not contract with, advise, or present itself to your firm’s clients.
What stays with your firm
- The engagement with the client, and the client relationship
- Professional judgment, advice, and any tax or filing work
- The review signature on every close - the sign-off is your firm’s
- The obligation to tell your client that your firm may use a service provider
The delivery commitment
Bursar’s commitment is a finished close within two to three days of period end. A close is delivered with its open items disclosed rather than delayed until they resolve: if a client never supplies a document, the item is parked, named in the open-items memo, and the close still ships. A late deadline caused by your client is not a reason for a late close.
The review gate
No close is delivered without sign-off from a credentialed reviewer. This is enforced by the system rather than by policy - an unsigned file cannot be delivered. A reviewer who is not satisfied returns the file to be re-worked and reviews it again.
Access to client systems
Bursar connects to a client’s accounting file through the accountant access your firm already holds. Nothing is migrated and nothing is replaced. Exactly one connected system is written to - the accounting file. Bank, card, point-of-sale and delivery connections are read-only, and the product refuses to register any of them in the role that would permit a write.
Pricing
Pricing is a flat monthly amount for the roster of clients your firm puts on Bursar, banded by client count, with unlimited seats for your firm’s team. The current bands are published on the pricing page. Rosters above the largest published band are priced individually.
Ending the relationship
Your data is yours to export at any time, and is deleted within 30 days of offboarding. Because Bursar writes back to the client’s own accounting file rather than holding a separate ledger, the books your firm is left with are the books in the client’s file - leaving does not strand a set of records inside Bursar.
Liability and coverage
Errors and omissions coverage is in place. Specific limits, certificates and the allocation of liability between your firm and Bursar are set out in the executed agreement rather than here, because those are the terms that actually bind and they should not be summarized into something a reader might rely on instead.
